Bylaws for NGHS Young Authors Club
Member Attendance:
- There are 9 required meetings throughout the year in total. If you miss 3 meetings, there is a warning regarding your continued membership. A 4th absence is a dismissal from the club for that school year.
- Extenuating circumstances such as a documented illness or absence from school that day that falls under an EXCUSED absence from school are acceptable reasons for missing a scheduled club meeting.
- It is the member’s responsibility to plan their schedule accordingly, and attend meetings regularly.
- 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays of every month at 2:20-3:15pm
- THE 2nd WEDNESDAY-is the required Club Business/Activity meeting. All members are expected to attend.
- THE 3rd WEDNESDAY- is the optional “write-in” day. This is a day when students can participate in a carved block of time to dedicate to their writing. We often write, share, and give each other feedback in these sessions.
- Membership dues are $15.00 annually, and paid through My Payments Plus under the name “WRITING CLUB”. This fee does not cover the cost of a t-shirt, but does cover club expenses for service projects & author visits. Each returning member must be renewed by August 31st. New members must sign up by September 30th.
- T-Shirts:
- The cost is $12.50. There will be ONE annual order placed by October 31st.Though not a required expense for the member, our club wears these shirts to all club events and for our club picture each January. Paying for a club t-shirt is strongly encouraged.
- True to NGHS Student Code of Conduct
- Additional rules include being respectful towards officers when they are speaking and respectful towards the people who share their work.
- Our meeting times are for writing and club activities. It is not a study hall, or a time for other art/creative projects.
Election of club officers:
- Club officers: New officers will be elected 1 month after the start of our annual meetings.
- President: club election
- Vice President: club election
- Secretary: club election
- Social Media: Students are nominated, and the club will narrow candidates to the top 3 choices. After this, the President, VP and Secretary will hold interviews to make a final selection for this officer position.
