Thanks y'all NGHS YAC Secretary Nida Merchant ** I realise that the title for the last post was a bt wonky... but i think I fixed it. Let me know if there are errors on the last blog title**
Welcome back writers! I hope you had a wonderful break and are ready to get into second semester mode. Few anouncements, the meeting that was scheduled for January 10th has now been moved to the 17th. Please dont show up on the tenth as you will be waiting outside a dark room. Also, we are planning our first ever Poetry cafe! Its still in its planning stages and we need your help to organize it. We will also be discussing about our Author Visit and other fun things. I hope to see all my YAC club members on the 17th, till then... LET IT SNOWWWWW!!! BTW: We have recieved some amazing feedback on our service project! We even recieved a special shoutout from the teacher administration for our creativity:) Thanks yall! NGHS YAC Secretary Nida Merchant I hope that 2016 has been a memorable year for all my writers. Its defintely been a game changing year for me. And I know that many students that are new to our school have experienced a whole new culture and enviroment. So as finals come and go, and the gifts under your tree pile higher, let us look back and reflect on 2016. What can we learn from this year? What have we gained and lost? As the temperature gets colder and the holidays come closer, we cherish those near us and remember those that are not.
From all the officers and club members of Young Authors club, Happy Holidays my loves! Have a fantabulous break I will see you next year! NGHS YAC Secretary Nida Merchant I hope your first semester this year has gone by a valuable asset. However, to wrap up your first semester in YAC, we are going to be having a winter party on the 13th of December in room 707. Last year we had a book exchange where each member is assigned a person and they are to bring them a book that their genre specifies. Please text Mrs. Deem letting her know of your participation by Wednesday, December 7th by 3pm.
We would appreciate if each member brought in food for the party. Last year we had amazing snickerdoodles and cake. We would truly appreciate it if you would let us know before time if you are bringing anything in. This is our last meeting in 2016! Make it count. Show up with a book for your secret person and food. In return we will love you forever:)) See you on the 13th! Thanks yall! NGHS YAC Secretary Nida Merchant Hey guys! I hope you guys had fun at the author visit last week! He did a great job and he has agreed to come to one of our formal meetings in January!
However, its time to officially announce our new community project called "If you need (a)..." Here are the directions: Community project: “If you need (a) letters…” The Young Authors club will write letters, notes and stories for the students of North Gwinnett. Each letter will have a theme. Throughout the day, we will post these notes around the school and make a game out of it. Each student can either take the letter, give it to someone who might need it or paste it on the wall somewhere else in the school. Each member is asked to write 5 letters that fall under the following categories: “When you need a… smile, laugh, motivation, inspiration, friend and encouragement. They can be letters, tall tales, poems, short stories, and more. Contact the club officers for any further information. The following letters will be due in its respective folders after Thanksgiving break. Officers will give you more information about where to submit the letters during or after the break. We strongly recommend that you guys finish them by the end of Thanksgiving break. Here are the basic outlines for the letters: - between 5-200 words - font and format will be altered so please specify if you want some things to remain - no inappropriate/foul language (I think it goes without saying, but if you have a question ask yourself if you would write it on a college application.) - make sure your letters are casual and 'high school student' friendly. Remember we are writing to students, not filling out college applications! - make sure to follow topics listed above. The topic is broad so we give our members the leeway to spread to their writing capabilities. - make sure to finish it by the 9th of December and submit it to the google folder. (We will give you more info about that later.) We have not finalized the day we want to have our service project, but we are shooting for December since it will be in the frenzy of finals! Hope these rules helped clear out what our expectations are for the community project. **Please share this post with all YAC members!** Thanks guys! NGHS YAC Secretary Nida Merchant Hey guys! Don't forget to come to the CLC during lunch to meet our fantabulous author, Mr. Mooney! Everybody is welcome and you can bring all your friends. Plus, we have pizza and a surprise from Mrs. Deem *wink*.
I hope to see you tomorrow! Thanks guys! NGHS YAC Secretary Nida Merchant P.S. WAIT! Mr. Mooney will be selling his books tomorrow as well so bring ten dollars to buy, sign, and meet the man behind the magic:) Usually when Im writing on the website, its usually in representation of Mrs. Deem, Aysha, Jenny and Tim.
But this time I'm gonna be a bit selfish and use this just for me. I really want to thank each and everyone of you for all the kind words y'all said in my time of trouble. I was shuffling through all the letters with tears in my eyes. I truly appreciate all of you guys. Things like this just remind me how lucky I am. When I came to NG as a freshman last year, I immediately joined YAC. Since then, this has been my family. And to all my new members, yall are equally as important. So thank you for making this club more like a family to me:) Anyways... enough with the mushy stuff. Here are the main slides from the meeting on the 1st:) Thanks guys! NGHS YAC Secretary Nida Merchant First of all, I would like to thank all my awesome members for the support! Honestly, we couldn't have done it without you. We received a lot of candy and got so much help in decorating the car.
I love all the members who came out and showed so much support yesterday. Y'all are the MVPs! And to all my homies that could not make it, don't fret! We have plenty of events that we will need your help in. I hope to see all my writers on November 1st for our meeting. NGHS YAC Secretary Nida Merchant Hey Writers! I hope you had a great weekend and are ready for Trunk or treat! I just wanted to remind you guys a few things. First, make sure to drop off any candy or decorating supplies in Mrs. Deem's room (707). We HIGHLY appreciate candy. Also, we have a write in on Tuesday and while write ins are not required, this one especially is very important. We will write for half and decorate Mrs. Deem's car for the rest. Our theme is a grammar monster. I mean I don't know about y'all, but grammar still gives me nightmares! Please make plans on attending the write in on Tuesday. We would appreciate all the help we can get. Another very important thing, please sign up for a shift in Mrs. Deem's room. The timings are 5:30-6:45 for 1st shift and 6:45-8:00 for 2nd and sign up for supplies there as well. Let's see who dresses up best for Tuesday! Just make sure the outfits are school appropriate and follow guidelines. Have a spookalicious week writers👻 NGHS YAC Secretary Nida Merchant |
